We are so grateful to have a community of people who are not only interested in permaculture but are helping us build a permaculture right here in Naperville. This fall we accomplished:
- digging the swales, spillways, and rain garden;
- building the berms and hugelkultur beds;
- planting the dwarf fruit trees and bulbs;
- and sheet mulched the area.
We hope to see some new faces at our 2014 Permablitz events! Spring will be a busy time planting the rest of the trees, shrubs, herbaceous and ground cover plants, installing the paths, building the bridges and arbors, creating and installing signage, and a myriad of other details.
Donations and sponsorships are still needed to fund this project. Your contribution will make the McDonald Farm Edible Forest Garden a reality, providing people an opportunity to experience permaculture first hand and learn how they can replace their lawns with edible plants and trees. About 8,000 people visit The Conservation Foundation McDonald Farm every year to participate in events, pick up their Green Earth Institute organic CSA share, and attend our classes and events. Let’s provide them with a beautiful edible forest garden to harvest from, relax in, and learn from.
