Finally a class to learn about the permaculture plants used in edible forest gardens and food forests. Begin to integrate these plants into your own garden. Tonight, you will explore the delicious EDIBLE herbaceous plants that can be used in your permaculture forest garden! We will also make a quick snack, and you will learn how to make a nutritious infusion to take home.
Permaculture edible forest gardens typically consist of at least seven layers – fungi, groundcovers, vines, herbaceous, shrubs, sub-canopy trees, canopy trees. Over the course of four months, learn about the plants commonly used within each layer including varieties, care and maintenance, ecology, best application, harvesting, and uses. For each layer we’ll discuss 15-40 plants empowering you with the knowledge and confidence to effectively incorporate a full range of tasty, functional species into your permaculture garden!
May 14th – FERTILIZERS and COMPANION PLANTING – annuals, perennials, PLUS learn tips on drying plants for teas.
May 21st – MEDICINALS – Learn sun and shade plants to grow that will provide you with healing right outside your own back door. You will also learn the basics of tincture making as well as take one home.
May 28th – EDIBLES – Perennial vegetables will be covered in-depth so you can gain some ideas for new foods to try in your own garden. We will also make a quick snack to enjoy, a nutritious infusion and provide additional recipes to try at home.
June 4th – INSECTARIES and PEST CONTROLLERS – Native plants to help support pollinators and protect our gardens will be covered. You will also get hands on experience on some critical garden management techniques and take home some pest deterring tinctures of your own.
