Volunteer to help The Resiliency Institute plant a fruit tree guild at Naperville Community Gardens to grow community food security.
We’re looking for 3-5 volunteers to help plant a fruit tree, shrubs, herbaceous perennials, and groundcovers. Please bring your own gardening gloves, hand trowel, and shovel.
The Resiliency Institute is donating a permaculture fruit tree guild to Naperville Parks to grow community food security. Planting edible gardens on public land establishes a local food shed and ensures fresh, nutritious food is free and available to anyone.
We’re excited to be partnering with Naperville Parks on this project. They are demonstrating a commitment to food security with their new edible plantings in the community gardens parking lot and in various other parks throughout the Naperville community. In 2015, with permission from Naperville Parks, we hosted a serviceberry gleaning day at Willow Gate Park, and with the help of volunteers, harvested 32 lbs of serviceberries. Eight lbs were given to the volunteers in gratitude for their labor and 24 lbs was donated to Loaves & Fishes Community Service.
