Save the dates! We want YOU to join us for a week in IRELAND this year! This September 16-24th, 2020 we are
“GOING GREEN ON THE EMERALD ISLE!”
The Resiliency Institute and local suburban farm Copper Fox Farm are co-hosting this Permaculture-based trip which has been designed just for us by the Institute of Study Abroad Ireland! We will see castles, ruins, and landscapes, experience authentic Irish culture, music, language, history & literature, visit cozy pubs, AND we will do it all with an “Earth Care, People Care, Fair Share” Permaculture focus!
We will learn a bit about herbalism and foraging and we’ll eat a foraged meal. We’ll talk about sustainability, urban farming and local foods, and the Transition Town movement, which started in Ireland. We’ll learn about the myths and legends of the land. We’ll have a chance to go surfing or to ride Connemara ponies on the beach! We’ll have a “voluntourism” opportunity at the local community gardens, AND (this is so exciting!) we will get to spend a day in nature with Mary Reynolds, “reformed landscape designer and nature activist!”
Mary is the youngest person to ever win a gold medal at the Chelsea Flower show, for her design based on natural, wild spaces. She wrote the book, The Garden Awakening: Designs to Nurture the Land and Ourselves, and the movie, “Dare to be Wild” is based on her story. We’ll be hosting a movie night to watch it together on May 1st, so mark your calendars for that as well! Mary also founded the We Are the A.R.K. (Acts of Restorative Kindness) movement and will talk to us about this, forest gardening and being earth guardians, nature connection, and rewilding. What better place to learn about rewilding than along the Wild Atlantic Way?
