Cheese Making 101: Soft Cheeses

Join homesteading expert and author Deborah Niemann to learn how simple it is to make cheese in your own kitchen. Explore this lost art and learn to make mozzarella, queso blanco, and ricotta. You will also learn how to make yogurt, buttermilk and chevre.

We’ll talk about the difference between milk from cows, goats, and sheep, as well as the history of dairy in this country. The basics of hard cheeses will be introduced. Students can build on this introduction to create many varieties of cheese at home.

Includes: Samples, recipes.

Fee: $35 Individuals/$64 for a Pair or for the Cheese & Soap Making day.

*Payment must be made with registration to hold your seat.

*Please bring a sack lunch if you are attending both sessions. Hot water & tea packets will be available.

 


During the afternoon, continue your homesteading skill development with Soap Making 101: Cold-process Soap Making. You’ll learn the history of soap making, how modern soap making is different, and how to create your own soap recipes. Every step of cold-process soap making will be demonstrated from start to finish using goat milk which makes the most luxurious and moisturizing soap.
